Arthur Murray Vancouver 1948 - Present

Arthur Murray dance schools have been helping people of all ages learn how to dance and socialize in a positive and friendly environment since 1913. Thanks to the popularity of Arthur Murray, the franchise expanded into other areas and in 1948 would open a dance school in Vancouver. Our current director is Chris Gallivan who bought the Vancouver franchise in 1990. Chris brings over three decades of dancing experience to the studio.

At our Arthur Murray dance school in Vancouver, our goal is to be fun, healthy, and progressive! While we continue a practice of teaching excellence, we also respond to modern dance trends and try to incorporate that into our lessons. Our individualized dance programs are designed by a personal coach, highly skilled dance professional, and instructor. This allows us to respond to the interests and needs of today’s clients.

Basic Introductory Program

Develop the most important dances you plan to use immediately at a basic level in the Basic Introductory Program. We place emphasis on three dancing elements:

  • Foot position

  • Rhythm and timing

  • Leading or following

Full Bronze Program

Arthur Murray’s Full Bronze Program is a complete social dance program, helping dancers develop timing and techniques in all the social dances you select. The styling you learn in this program will allow you to feel more comfortable on the dance floor, strengthening your leading and following skills, no matter who your partner may be or what type of music being played. At this level you’ve reached the “fun point” in dancing, giving you elements of each dance that you will never forget.

Gold Program

The Gold Program is a challenging program reserved for hobby dancers who are interested in performances, exhibitions, or competitions. The intricate patterns learned in this program can only be used when both dance partners are proficient. You will learn the types of styling, choreography, technique, and showmanship that are needed for competing standards. Generally, what you learn in the Gold Program are dances not intended for a crowded dance floor.

Associate Bronze Program

Get more freedom of movement around the dance floor and expand your variety, technique, and footwork with the Associate Bronze Program. In this program, our dancers develop portrayal of a dance's characteristics in the form of styling. One of our more popular programs, the Associate Bronze Program helps you get on the dance floor quickly.

Silver Program

In the Silver Program, you will develop elaborate movements to ensure you stand out on the dance floor with your own style. This program helps you hone continuity of movement, allowing you to glide across the dance floor with many natural directional changes. Styling, technique, balance, and control take on a new meaning. At this stage, you have reached a more professional standard of dancing used mainly on the ballroom floor.
